The Costume That Outlived Halloween.
Started Wed, 10/22/2008 - 10:16 pm in

It's the same story every year; here I sit nearly one week away from Halloween with no costume and very few ideas. I am not a big time costume shopper, when I buy something I want to be able wear it more than once a year, or once period. This year I want a costume that will leave me with a piece of clothing or an entire outfit I can continue to enjoy wearing for a while.

So far the best idea I've had is going out as PC from Apple's "I'm a Mac. and I'm a PC" commercials. I figure if I went as PC I will atleast end up with a suit jacket and pants to wear for those occasions that call for more than a t-shirt and blue jeans ( I really am a Mac I guess). I know it's not the best idea but it sort of illustrates what I am trying to achieve with my look this year. Let me know if you have any fashionably sound Halloween costume ideas that I could ummm...borrow?

Re: The Costume That Outlived Halloween.

I'm always in the same boat...this year I've decided to go cheap and buy a kids costume - maybe like a ladybug or a lion. I'm small enough that I should be able to find one that somewhat fits (might have to make some modifications to it) but I'll still be too big for it and thus it will look ridiculous and very funny (that's the idea anyway).

I also resorted to Googling several variations of 'cool costume ideas' to see what others have done. Quite a few cool costumes came up but nothing I really wanted to try.

If I had the resources and time, I DID come up with one great idea; feel free to use this if you can pull it off! Basically, it involves one guy dressing up as King Henry VIII...and then having 6 girls accompany him dressed up as his ghoulish deceased wives. Historical AND gruesome! Appropriate props for King Henry VII include a fake turkey leg or a mini guillotine.

Whaddya think?

I think that is a grand idea, only I must insist that the turkey leg be real, and a leather bag full of gravy be added to the ensemble as an accessory. I am sure I would have less trouble procuring the necessary medieval costume elements as I would finding six women to accompany me. Perhaps I could go as Henry a little less further into his married life, say after his first? only kidding, that would be quite the costume to see!

Re: The Costume That Outlived Halloween.

Well, it seems to me that a common theme of halloween is to take something normal, like a prom queen, or a cop, and make it either "sexy," "zombie," or both. Zombie prom queen, sexy cop, or sexy, dead, cop. So, you could pretty much choose anything that would expand your wardrobe, and add "zombie" to it with some makeup.

What did you end up choosing?
